Mothers and babies at risk of dying because of poor maternity care, says watchdog

Mothers and babies are still at risk of dying because of poor maternity care, the NHS watchdog has warned.

In a stark report the Care Quality Commission said some hospitals were “too slow” to take measures to improve the safety of mothers and babies despite numerous maternity scandals.

The report also said hospitals were doing too little for ethnic minority and poorer mothers who are at a much higher risk of dying during childbirth.
