More local authorities on government’s ‘watch list’ introduce own coronavirus measures

Councils in England have been given extra powers to close shops and cancel events in a bid to control outbreaks of coronavirus. It comes as more local authorities on the government’s ‘watch list’ introduce their own measures.

The official number of UK deaths has risen by 40 in 24 hours bringing the total number of deaths to 45,273 but with a review ordered into the way deaths with Covid-19 are recorded- how accurate are these figures?

Our North of England correspondent Clare Fallon is in Nelson in Pendle this evening – this area in east Lancashire had the second highest number of new cases in England last week.
