Modern slavery increases in the UK

New figures from the Salvation Army show that cases of modern slavery in Britain have soared in recent years.

The Salvation Army, which is contracted by the government to provide the support offered to victims of human trafficking, says the increase may be down to better monitoring – the UK now has a Modern Slavery Act . But it could also be because many victims don’t get enough long term help – and fall back into the hands of the traffickers.

A warning – Keme Nzerem’s report contains descriptions of what some trafficked women have experienced.
