Meta settles social media court case for up to $18bn

The tech giant Meta has agreed to pay up to $18bn and add child safety measures to settle claims brought by dozens of US states that its platforms harmed children.

It ends a landmark trial in California before CEO Mark Zuckerberg was due to take the stand, and comes a day after the head of Instagram testified.
