Mass evacuations ordered as Hurricane Florence approaches US

Up to 1.7 million people have now been ordered to leave their homes as the US braces for Hurricane Florence.

The category three storm is ploughing towards the east coast and is due to make landfall in South Carolina early on Friday morning.

A state of emergency has been declared in Georgia, making it the fifth state to do so, as authorities warned of storm surges and catastrophic flooding.

We are in the Cape Fear region in North Carolina, where residents have been rushing to escape inland.
