Liverpool stripped of its world heritage status by Unesco

It was once one of the greatest maritime cities on earth, at the heart of global trade since the 19th Century.

In 2004 Unesco’s world heritage committee recognised Liverpool’s unique and iconic status and elevated it to a position on par with wonders of the world, like the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal.

Today, after 17 years as a world heritage site, Liverpool has lost that crown. The reason? New developments.
