Why are we worse off than our parents? – on #c4news

Jobs. Housing. Benefits. Protests. Is this generation getting a raw deal, and will they accept it? A special series on Channel 4 News next week.

It could be the cry of a generation: “Is it just me, or is everything s***?”

Youth unemployment is the highest it has ever been; house prices are on a seemingly unstoppable rise; tuition fees are putting many off university and politicians are even discussing stripping housing benefit from the under-25s.

And perhaps worst of all – everyone, from their parents, to politicians, to the dreaded media (and yes, we’re including ourselves in that) keeps talking about them and labelling them: from the doomed generation to “generation why?”.

And then people call them out on not being rebellious enough. When Channel 4 News went out to sixth forms around the UK to ask teenagers what they thought about that, there was an indignant response.

“We’re too tired to protest,” said one.

“I feel angry that we should have to protest to have a fair shot at things,” said another.

Well, now we want to hear from you. Are you aged 16-34? What’s life like?
