Inflation at its lowest level for over two years

Inflation fell faster than expected last month, to 3.9%, bringing it down to its lowest level for over two years. Falling fuel prices and slower rises in food prices were the cause.

It puts pressure on the Bank of England to cut interest rates to avert the risk of a recession. And it means that the government can claim it’s meeting one of its five key pledges.
