“I’m terrified” – welfare claimants fear plans for tougher benefits rules

The chancellor will set out the government’s spending plans next week in his autumn statement – including tougher rules for benefit claimants.

Jeremy Hunt has said he wants the welfare system to be a “mix of carrot and stick” – hinting at sanctions for those who he said “won’t even look for work”.

But charities are worried that could hit people with long term sickness or disabilities who are already struggling to make ends meet.
