Houthi fighters assert control over Bab al-Mandab Strait

The UN says more than 100,000 people have been displaced following a surge in fighting in Yemen between Iranian-backed Houthi fighters and Yemeni forces supported by Saudi Arabia.

Thousands more have fled across the sea to neighbouring Djibouti. The Houthis have stepped up attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure, and have captured Yemen’s Red Sea Coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, an important shipping route.
