House of Representatives remains without elected speaker

The hardline Republican congressman Jim Jordan says he won’t force a third vote on his bid to become speaker of the US House of Representatives after failing to win over enough support among fellow Republicans.

Democrats have branded Mr Jordan an extremist and “a clear and present danger to our democracy”.

Amid all the infighting it means the House remains without an elected speaker.
