First travellers from high-risk countries quarantined in hotels

The first travellers have been checking into quarantine hotels as part of tougher restrictions to curb the spread of new Covid variants.

Anyone arriving in England from 33 “red list” countries, where worrying strains are circulating, now has to pay just over £1,700 to quarantine in specially designated hotels.

The same rule applies in Scotland to arrivals from any destination outside the Common Travel Area.
