Elderly people with complex health needs being denied free care

Thousands of families across the country are waiting to find out if there will be a judicial review into the way healthcare for their loved ones is funded, under a system many describe as broken.

The continuing healthcare scheme was set up to allow people with long- term complex health needs to qualify for free care, funded by NHS England.

But because of the strict assessment rules, tens of thousands of people who apply each year are turned down and are left without financial support.

We have been speaking to some of the families affected.
