Earthquake: Emergency upon emergency as crisis hits war-torn Syria

In Syria, as in Turkey, they are desperately going through rubble, trying to pull survivors out.

With the official number killed  heading towards two thousand. UNHCR has called on all sides to put politics aside in the war-torn country to allow aid in as quickly as possible.

The rescue efforts have to negotiate a patchwork of areas controlled by rival forces.

Most of the country as far north as Aleppo is controlled by Bashir Al-Assad while Kurds are in charge in the east. Different armed rebel groups, some with links to extremists, control much of western border area.
