Covid inquiry: Johnson promises bereaved families chair appointed by Christmas

Boris Johnson has promised bereaved family members that he’ll appoint a chair of the public inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic by Christmas.

The prime minister met a group of five relatives, who’ve all lost loved ones to the virus, at Downing Street, more than a year after he promised such a meeting.

They said they were disappointed by his “lack of urgency” and hoped he would follow through on his pledge.
