Children in care ‘could reach 100,000 without reform of England’s system’

The number of children in care in England could soar to 100,000 unless there is radical reform of the social care system.

That’s according to an independent review of children’s services – which calls for an urgent increase in funding, the recruitment of more foster carers and a windfall tax on private children’s home operators.

We spoke to one recent care leaver and a frontline social worker about a system under creaking pressure.
