Child poverty becoming ‘new normal’ in parts of country

“Poverty is the new normal” for children in some of the most deprived areas of the country, according to new study out today. The study, commissioned by a coalition of charites, suggests that in some areas, more than half of children are growing up in poverty.

They’re now calling on the government to set out a child poverty reduction strategy. The government say they are supporting families to improve their lives through work. We’ve been to Bradford to meet one family who say despite working, life is still a struggle .
