Charities launch virus appeal for people in refugee camps

Aid agencies are warning that COVID-19 could soon cause humanitarian disasters in the world’s most fragile states.

Malnutrition and a lack of healthcare mean death rates from the virus are likely to be much higher in overcrowded refugee camps and war-torn countries such as Yemen, Syria and Somalia.

Today an alliance of 14 British charities launched an appeal aimed at providing millions of the world’s most vulnerable people with basics like soap and clean water to help limit the spread of the virus.
