Care Quality Commission: People’s health at risk by ‘gridlocked’ health system

People’s health is being put at risk by a “gridlocked” health and social care system – where people struggle to access services and become stuck in hospital because of a lack of support in the community.

That’s the verdict of the Care Quality Commission which says the risk of patients coming to harm “’represents a worrying new status quo”.

The report blames staff shortages, with one in 10 jobs across the NHS and social care sector currently vacant.
