Calls for independent inquiry into alleged Downing Street parties

Opposition MPs say the inquiry into alleged parties at Downing Street during last year’s lockdown should be lead by an independent figure.

It comes after Number 10 named another senior civil servant, Sue Grey, to take over the inquiry.

The Cabinet Secretary Simon Case stepped down from the role last night, amid claims that staff had attended a party in his office.
