Boris Johnson has defended plans to get teachers to grade England’s GCSE and A-level students this year, calling it a “good compromise”. Exams are being cancelled for a second year running due to the pandemic and after the debacle of last year’s algorithm, it’s now up to schools to determine grades themselves. But MPs are demanding to know how ministers are planning to avoid a wave of grade inflation and inconsistencies.
