Boris Johnson asks EU to meet him halfway on Brexit

The Prime Minister has written articles in two Brexit backing newspapers, urging the EU to meet him half way – or we will leave anyway.

Meanwhile ministers have been out and about today, insisting that the controversial backstop should be replaced with what they call a “consent mechanism” – a means by which the people of Northern Ireland can have a say about whether new border arrangements with the EU should continue.

But will the EU engage with such a plan?
