American medical insurance system leaves millions vulnerable to coronavirus

It has one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world but not everyone in the US can afford to use it.

Around 30 million Americans – that’s nearly ten percent of the population – has no medical insurance.

Many struggle to pay for drugs and medical care when they fall ill. But the current pandemic has highlighted the vulnerability of some of the poorest as they cope, not only with the stress of contracting Covid 19 but the costs of getting hospital treatment as well.
