RBS treatment ‘horrendous’, say couple

Washington Correspondent

The treatment of Bernard Lockett at the hands of RBS has been described by Banking Commission researchers as amongst the worst they have heard. Watch the full interview with Siobhan Kennedy here.

The Lockett’s story is not about PPI (payment protection insurance) or mis-sold interest rate Swaps. Theirs is a simple case of bad banking which has ruined their lives.

Bernard and Leah lost tens of thousands of pounds through mismanagement at RBS going back nearly 20 years.

They now live in a rented flat with all of their possessions in storage.

The bank has admitted wrongdoing on numerous occasions but has never returned any money or offered compensation.

The Lockett’s are visibly broken as a result. Although they’ve fought tirelessly for justice and the money they believe should rightly be returned to them, the stress has clearly taken its toll.

In a statement to Channel 4 News RBS said it went to great lengths to address all of Mr Lockett’s concerns and apologised saying they “regret he’s unhappy”.
