Concern over women's drink habit

Middle-aged women think females drink more now than a decade ago, a survey has revealed.
Women aged over 40 also expressed concerns about the amount of alcohol consumed by their generation and admitted they sometimes regretted drunken behaviour, the poll found.
A total of 94% of the almost 3,000 Woman & Home magazine readers questioned thought women drank more now than they did 10 years ago.
The survey revealed more than a quarter of women (27%) admitted warning a female friend or family member about the amount they drank, while 10% said they had been cautioned themselves.
Generational differences were also identified by the respondents, for whom social drinking has become the norm.
More than half (51%) of the women surveyed thought they drank more than their mothers did at their age - usually a rare glass of something on special occasions.
This contrasts with the survey which found more than one in 10 of 40-plus women (12%) have a drink every day and three in 10 consume alcohol a few times each week.
A total of 80% open a bottle at home and nearly half of women (46%) said they drink on their own as a treat or to help them relax after a stressful day.
White wine was the top choice, followed by red and then rose with a quarter choosing spirits and 15% claiming beer was their favourite tipple.
The most popular reason given for having a drink was to accompany a meal (57%).
