Ceasefire fails to quell fighting

The UN secretary general has urged the Congolese rebel leader to keep a ceasefire declaration following heavy fighting in the country.
The EU is meeting to decide to whether to send more forces to the region as aid agencies are warning of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Foreign envoys have been deployed to the Congo-Rwanda border where tens of thousands have fled their homes.
But the Congolese rebel leader Laurent Nkunda has threatened to occupy the eastern city of Goma unless UN peacekeepers guarantee a ceasefire.
