Pressure mounts on Tory MP Kirkbride
Updated on 26 May 2009
Conservative MP Julie Kirkbride is under pressure to follow her husband and step down at the next election over revelations about expenses.Â
According to the Daily Telegraph, Kirkbride employs her sister, who lives more than 100 miles from her constituency, at taxpayers' expense as a part-time secretary.
She has also been criticised over electrical equipment bought for her by her brother using her parliamentary office expense account.
The Telegraph also reported that Dennis Bates, husband of Labour MP Meg Munn, received £5,000 for personal tax advice from several ministers, including the Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Gillian Merron, John Healey and Jim Knight.
