Somalia, the 'new Pakistan'?

By Jonathan Rugman

Updated on 16 February 2009

In this special report Jonathan Rugman follows the path taken by newly radicalised youths, amid fears they could return to attack targets in the UK.

A young man blows himself up in Somalia, killing several people, but he is from Ealing in west London.

He is just one of scores of Muslims believed to have travelled from the UK to join Islamist militants in one of the world's worst failed states.

Britain has the biggest community of Somalis in Europe. So could Somalia be the "new Pakistan", a training ground for terrorism here?

The issue was raised by Jonathan Evans, the head of MI5, last month.
