If they want to cut spending, perhaps politicians should start with themselves? More4News reveals the money you spend on political parties.

For all the talk of cutting the cost of politics, there is one area politicians are silent on.

In theory, and unlike in many countries, political parties in the UK are not directly funded by the state.

But the truth is rather different. In fact, More4 News has learnt that almost a fifth of political party funding comes from the public purse.

£6m of that goes to the Conservatives, who today announced they wanted to slash spending.

David Fuller now reports on the backdoor ways that our cash pays for British politics.
