At his first conference as Lib Dem leader, Nick Clegg sees off a bid to promise more public spending.

It has been a challenging first conference as Liberal Democrat leader for Nick Clegg, but he managed to see off a bid by rebels to promise more spending on public services.

After a heated debate, delegates in Bournemouth backed plans to cut public spending to pay for tax cuts.
