OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDAL WINNING GYMNAST

Why did you say ‘yes’ to doing The Jump?

When I was a gymnast I always wanted to ski, quite a lot of my friends used to go off on school ski trips and because of my training I wasn’t allowed to go, so it was one of the first things I wanted to do when I retired but took me a couple of years to get round to it. I love the challenge of learning a new skill and the adrenaline buzz of can I do it, can’t I do it.

Can you ski?

I’ve been on a five day skiing holiday and I can stand on my skis, but I wouldn’t say I’m a skier.

Which event are you most looking forward to?

I like the look of the snow cross and also skeleton.

Are you competitive?

I’m competitive against myself. I get really frustrated if I can’t do something so I’m constantly trying to go one better but not necessarily with other people. I’ve only ever been in a environment where I can’t control what other people do, I can only control what I do.

Are you sporty?

Definitely sporty.

Have you spoken to anyone who has done The Jump before?

I spoke briefly with Louise Hazell, she said it was one of the best things she’s done.

Are you looking forward to being out in Austria and living with the other competitors?

It’s quite daunting to be away from home for so long but I’m used to travelling and being away, but I’m really looking forward to it and obviously they will be a good atmosphere. When I did Dancing on Ice I spent a lot of time in the hotel with the other guys taking part and you build up a little family atmosphere and I think this will be the same.
