Development coach Mart, from Newcastle, is the fifth player to be cut from The Deceased’s will and eliminated from Channel 4's devious game, The Inheritance. The decision was made by Emma and Ferg who were joint Prime Beneficiaries and were given the power to choose who would be next to leave, having to pick from Mart, Matt and Hannah.
Interview with Mart:
What were your first impressions of the house, The Executor and, most importantly, your fellow players?
I thought it looked like something from Bridgerton or Downton Abbey. It was a very grandiose estate, stunning and so elegant. I felt out of place walking through the front door, because I thought, this is wealth. As for The Executor, Rob - he's nice, but he's got a bit of a cheeky, funny side. Sometimes we'd say something, and he would pout, and you could see he was trying not to laugh. As for fellow players, everyone was so nice. I only really butted heads with one person throughout the whole experience [Matt], and that was because he was calling me out to be a liar when I knew very well that I was telling the truth. I caught him out and he turned the entire group against me, which is why I'm sat here right now.
Did you have a strategy and did you stick to it?
I had a strategy going in; I would get friendly with everyone, so that everyone was on my side. Then undercover, I forged these secret alliances so that I was in all the different groups. It was working fine for a while.
What about the requests and all those challenges. Did you enjoy them? Did you have a favourite?
One request I was making sausages for a food hamper. Another one we were cleaning an old rug we needed to restore. We had a teddy bears’ picnic. Someone described a teddy bear to us and we had to find it amongst 100 other teddy bears. Of them all, making sausages was fun, I really enjoyed that day. It's something that I haven’t been involved in before. It was really enjoyable, and it was so therapeutic.
How does it feel to be leaving at this point?
I am absolutely gutted to be leaving at this point, because to get this far - three quarters of the way through the game - and then to get voted is not a nice feeling. At the same time, I'm just happy that I get to go home to my little boy. It's going to be so nice to see my son's face.
Who do you think will go far, and who would you like to go far?
There are two different people. I would love Tia to win. I have a lot of respect for her. She's gracious and very humble. An all-round nice person, unless, of course, she's faking it! She is a beautiful soul, the kind of person that I would meet up with outside of here. The person that I think will win is Cam. I think he's doing incredibly well in getting people on his side and he's very likeable. He's also someone that I would hang around with outside of here. I surround myself with positive people, and I think they are two of the nicest people in there.
Looking back, would you have done anything differently?
Yeah, I would have done everything differently! I would have gone in there and just been myself, I think having all this gameplay outed me. If I'd have gone in there as just myself, I probably would have been in the final.
Do you have a standout highlight of the entire experience?
I think the most emotional part was probably the teddy bears’ picnic. Rob Rinder came out and got us to answer all these questions. Because of Matt's lies, everyone chose me for every answer. It was one of the worst points, but I came out of that with my head held high. I thought, it's all part and parcel of the experience. I think my favourite part was the second request, the farmyard. I love animals. I love farms. Chasing a pig around in mud was probably the highlight. I fell over three times. Then the next thing I know, I'm in a heap of manure and I'm popping it into bags. Then I'm chasing sheep around. I think that was by far my favourite day.
