In the penultimate episode of The Inheritance, two players were cut from The Deceased’s will and eliminated from the game. Matt and Ferg are the players missing out on a place in the final.
Following a high-stakes masquerade ball, The Executor (Rob Rinder) revealed that the player with the lowest amount of money would be leaving immediately. With Hannah having been named Prime Beneficiary and escaping elimination with a final reprieve, the axe fell on retired market trader Ferg who left with £3,400.
Interview with Ferg:
What were your first impressions of the house and The Executor? What was it like meeting Rob Rinder and most importantly, your fellow players?
It was good. I loved the house; it’s absolutely mind blowing and with the weather we've had, it's been lovely. What a place; it just makes you feel good. My fellow contestants are a mad bunch of kids! They're lovely kids, and they've really treated me well. I know I was sometimes the weakest link, and they didn't want to say it. I was told that I've got to speak up a little bit for myself. Emma said something about that. All the way along, I had no trouble with anybody. I haven’t fallen out with anybody. I feel that I've got through this, and my family will say that I did well. I've come out as I wanted, they can laugh at me, and I don't mind that. I wouldn’t like it if I came out after being nasty to somebody or having undermined someone to get that money.
Rob, The Executor, scared the living daylights out of me. When I went down to the Safe Room it felt like I was going to the headmaster's study. He's played a brilliant part, he’s authoritative but funny at the same time.
Did you have a strategy, and did you stick to it?
No, I didn't really have a strategy. My strategy was to go in as myself and be honest and I stuck to that.
What about some of the things you did for the requests, how did you find them?
The first day I'm in a stagnant lake. The next day I'm in a pile of manure and racing a pig in a field. The next day I think I'm making butter. I think then I was covered in honey and then I was in a balloon dress. So, I had quite a good time.
Any particular favourites?
If there's a manure club somewhere, I might join them. Or honey baths, if there's such a thing. That was the funniest day. Then pulling the boat around the quarry, that was great. Whoever made these games up, I don't know! The only one I didn't enjoy was the last day, I put myself in the wrong bit, I should have put myself as a waiter.
How does it feel to be leaving now?
It feels great. I've been so ready the last couple of days. I've been really missing home. I just wanted to get going. My wife and I have never been apart this long, in 45 years.
Who do you think will win? Who would you like to win?
I wouldn’t mind if Hafsah won even if she's probably playing a right game! But it wouldn't matter who really. Jesse's lovely, Tia is funny, Cam's a good bloke. But if I had to choose somebody, it would be Hannah. She's getting married, it would help her financial position and she would deserve it. Her face last night when she got that money, it was a true joy.
Do you have a standout highlight of the entire experience?
It's got to be the honey. Me and Jesse, standing there with our arms around each other, stuck together, 50 years apart in age, smiling, happy. We couldn't be happier. Matt was roaring with laughter, so that was a highlight.
