The Great British Bake Off: The Fifth Baker Leaves The Tent

Category: News Release

The nation’s most famous tent was pitched in the grounds of Welford Park once again. Presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond came to lead the latest batch of 12 bakers through thirty brand new challenges set by Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, in ten episodes.

In Tuesday’s night’s episode of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4, Aaron was named Star Baker and sadly Nadia was the fifth baker to leave the 16th series.

It was Chocolate week in the tent and the 8 remaining bakers had to impress the judges Paul and Prue to battle it out for Star Baker.

The judges set the bakers three indulgent challenges. Starting with fiddly chocolate mousse cups, the bakers then had to take on a white chocolate tart technical, which was trickier than it seemed and in the Showstopper, a chocolate fondue display, that pushed the bakers chocolate skills to the max.

At the end of the fifth episode Noel announced that Aaron was Star Baker and Alison had the difficult job of telling Nadia that she would be leaving the tent.

Nadia said ‘Me daughter said mum you are good at baking you should go on that, and I didn’t think anything of it, I just did it.   I have had the best time and made some amazing friends, it’s been unreal’.

Prue said ‘I am so sad to see Nadia go,  but she just didn’t quite do enough to save herself.’

Nadia here talks about her experience after leaving the tent:

‘I was fine about leaving in week 5.  I was fine because I knew it was my week to go and I’d missed my kids but I was also gutted too !   I had so many good moments in the tent, and  probably my biscuit box showstopper was my best moment and the worst moment for me was the week I left.

‘My favourite challenge overall was the filled monkey bread as I love making things I’ve never done before and because now it’s a family favourite.   My worst challenge overall was chocolate week because it was hard to work with and very temperamental

‘I wore very bright clothes unlike what I usually wear, and I actually asked Noel for one of his shirts I loved and he gave it to me!!   Noel and Alison were a lot of fun constantly joking with us.

‘I loved my fellow bakers because they were so helpful and genuine.  I’ve learned so much and challenged myself  - going into Bake Off  will be the best thing I’ve ever done!  And I would absolutely encourage other home bakers to apply for the next series.

‘I don’t know what is next for me in the baking world, but I’d love to do more with baking and possibly more on TV.’
