LOCATION: Belfast
JOB: Fashion Student
You’re going to be competing in the first competitive knitting show. Are you thrilled?
I am so excited, but really nervous. It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before.
What is your unique style of knitting?
I love to make super chunky cardigans. They have their own unique patterns which are unique to me. I have features which I keep across all of my stuff.
What is it that you love most about knitting?
I love being able to make clothes that are in my style – and that are comfortable and look the way I want them to.
Go on, there must be a part of the knitting process that you dislike - what is it?
Nothing! I love it so much. I love seeing something out from start to finish.
How do you go about preparing for a competition like Game of Wool?
I’ve been knitting like mad. There are a few things I’ve had to teach myself to do. I’ve made a few templates that I really love. It’s been a lot of practicing and pattern making.
Have you done a knitting competition before?
I did in Belfast! A stitching show.
What are you hoping some of the challenges will be?
A big chunky cardigan, anything where I can do something my style and put my stamp on.
Are you just a knitting wiz or are you multi-skilled?
I play guitar!
How does knitting make you feel?
I started crocheting when I was struggling in school. When things were so crazy, I would go off and crotchet and it would make me feel great.
Knitting is becoming cool again, why do you think this is?
Perceptions are changing and it is becoming younger as people are more adventurous with that they want to wear.
If you had to give one piece of advice to someone picking up needles for the first time, what would you say to them?
To just start – pick it up and go straight into it.
Game of Wool: Britain’s Best Knitter starts Sunday 2 November at 8pm on Channel 4.
