Channel 4 to air Elliot Roger documentary, The Virgin Killer

Category: News Release

On Friday 23 May, British born Elliot Rodger killed six students, injured thirteen, caused carnage across nine locations in Santa Barbara before turning the gun on himself. Online he had posted his troubled thoughts and murderous intentions, but still his plans went unnoticed.

The story of a mass murder in a digital age, The Virgin Killer, takes a look at the tragic actions of that day and the events leading up to it. With interviews and insights from expert psychologists and a former teacher we delve into the devastating events and actions of the Virgin Killer.

Interviews with:

  •          Deborah Smith – the formal principal at Independence High School, which Elliot Rodger attended.
  •          Professor Craig Jackson - Head of Psychology, Birmingham City University.
  •          Dr Claire Hardaker of Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster University
  •          Dr Park Dietz - one of America's most prominent forensic psychiatrists. He has provided expert testimony in high profile cases including John Hinckley Jr., Jeffrey Dahmer, O.J. Simpson civil suit, the Unabomber, the shootings at the U.S. Capitol and Columbine.

Ian Russell, Head of International Programmes at ITN Productions and Executive producer of the documentary said: “Elliot Rodger left an online debris trail of Vlogs and writing.  It gives us an unusual and chilling insight into the mind behind an appalling event - in his own voice. Depicting the toxic cocktail of narcissism and social isolation, The Virgin Killer is a cautionary tale for the modern day."

The Virgin Killer - Channel 4, 10:05pm, Sunday 15th June.
