Ackley Bridge: Interview with Vicky Entwistle who plays Sandra Turner

Category: News Release

You play Sandra Turner in the new series of Ackley Bridge. How does she come into the story?

Sandra has always been in the background of Iqbal's life. They have two children together. They share a deep love & understanding for each other. They met years ago whilst still at school! For some reason their oldest child, Aaron decides to spill the secret to his half-sister, Nas who knows nothing about our secret family. That is when the heartache begins. Sandra knew it would only be a matter of time before everything began to unravel.

Tell us about Sandra, who much does she know about Iqbal’s other life?

Sandra is a hard-working, loving woman.  She has a beautiful home & loves her family. Sandra knows all about Iqbal's double life. She doesn't particularly like the situation they find themselves in but she loves him & was with him years before the second family came along. She is a kind woman who understands that everyone involved will feel some sort of pain when the truth comes out, but believes things may settle down & become more bearable as time goes on

Is it difficult guest-starring on a show where everyone already knows each other?

It's always a tad unnerving when you walk on to the set of an ongoing series, where everyone is familiar with each other & have already established their working relationships. But the cast & crew were so very welcoming to me & therefore I soon felt totally at ease. I really enjoyed the whole experience!

Had you acted with anyone in the show before?

I had previously worked with Amy Leigh Hickman on a theatre project so she had a massive cuddle for me when I arrived, so that was a lovely moment to calm my racing heart, ha!

Had you seen any of series one?

I did see series 1 as Amy had told me about it before she started filming.

What was it that attracted you to the part?

Playing the Mother of mixed race children really intrigued me. My wish as an Actress is to keep learning & developing, therefore this role was the ideal opportunity to learn about different cultures & to hopefully portray an honest depiction of how the merging of those can bring pleasure!

The cast features a lot of kids at the start of their careers. How did you find working with them?

The kids in the cast are not only talented but being around their energy & commitment is truly electric!

You left Corrie to go back to doing theatre – what roles have you enjoyed the most?

I have loved all the roles I have played since leaving Corrie. Having the freedom to work on various very different projects is so exciting & I never stop learning & moving on to the next!

Why did you decide this was a good time to come back and do TV?

I decided to come back to TV just to see if I could still do it, ha! It is a very different medium than theatre but I still love it in equal measure.
