What is the main goal of your organisation?

PurpleSpace is a social business with a big mission. We want to make it easier for employees to navigate the experience of ill health or disability while flourishing at work.

We do this by helping organisations across all industries and sectors to create vibrant and effective disability staff networks and resource groups.

These predominately disabled led networks, help to stimulate better conversations about all aspects of disability and business with their internal champions, allies and executive sponsors: building both personal and business disability confidence from the inside out.

How can a person or organisation get involved or participate?

PurpleLightUp is our annual celebration of the economic contribution of disabled people across the world. It happens to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December.

We’d like any person or organisation to join our celebration by ‘going purple’ for the day and sharing their stories on social media. Whether you’re doing a purple cake bake or face painting, lighting your building purple or flying a purple flag… we want to know about it.

There are lots more ideas for getting involved on our website or follow #PurpleLightUp on Twitter or Facebook.

What words of encouragement would you give to a disabled person looking to find success in the workplace?

At PurpleSpace, we’re a community of disabled employees, allies and champions keen to share experiences and to learn from each other.

We’ve noticed that disabled staff - particularly people who are newly diagnosed with a health condition, a disability or mental ill health – often need to build inner confidence and resilience. And we’ve observed that your best way to do this is with the support of others, who can help you navigate challenges and build success.
