Grandmaster Flash was one of the founding fathers of the New York Rap and the block-party scene of the late 70s and early 80s. He was one of the first DJs to treat the turntables as a musical instrument, cutting-up funk, disco and soul records to lay the musical foundations of hip hop.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's ground-breaking track The Message was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame back in 2007. Plus, in 2011, Flash himself joined the Grammy Hall Of Fame - making Flash the first DJ and hip hop artist ever to be inducted to the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and the Grammy Hall Of Fame.
