Patience S2 - Press Pack

Category: Press Pack

Patience is back – with a new DI in charge and a series of tricky and twisted crimes in the city of York. This season Patience, our autistic archivist who helps the police with their investigations is thrown out of her comfort zone as a new DI roars into town to lead the team. Motorbike riding DI Frankie Monroe has transferred from another force a week early and she makes an entrance. She is brusque and abrupt and not afraid to shake things up. She initially finds Patience irritating and can’t understand why the rest of the team want her onboard, but as Patience helps unpick some of the more tangled crimes she sees her value and warms to her.

For Patience this season is all about relationships - old and new. Her fledgling romance with Elliot develops and they start dating though the path to young romance does not always run smoothly. In the workplace - though she is part of the team she always feels she needs to prove herself. She will also discover a new relationship that will shake her to the core and make her question her past.

The crimes this series include a mystery leading to York Minster, a murder in the train museum and a trail of magic that ends in a chase through a Hall of Mirrors. The season finale sees Patience and Frankie held hostage by an armed escaped prisoner.

Ella Maisy Purvis returns as Patience, and Bafta award winning actor Jessica Hynes (W1A, Miss Austen, Royle Family) joins the cast as Frankie. Other favourites returning include Mark Benton as Calvin, Nathan Welsh as Jake, and Tom Lewis as Elliot.

Characters:

Patience Evans - Ella Maisy Purvis

Patience is a young autistic woman who works in Criminal Records, collaborating with City of York police to solve tricky cases. In Season 2, Patience’s role is threatened when DI Frankie Monroe joins the team and she has to work to prove herself again. Meanwhile, Patience faces new personal frontiers, as romance blossoms with colleague Elliot, and her search for her mother yields clues.

DI Frankie Monroe - Jessica Hynes

DI Frankie Monroe is something of an enigma to her new police colleagues in York, and Patience is often left baffled by Frankie’s brusque demeanour and sense of humour. However, her investigative brilliance earns her the respect of her colleagues: she is clever, intuitive, and determined when it comes to tracking down criminals, and earns Patience’s respect – and friendship.

DS Jake Hunter - Nathan Welsh

Jake is Frankie’s deputy at City of York Police. He is an experienced and intuitive detective who gets on with everyone and is not afraid to get in stuck in. He can seem a bit of a lad at times, but beneath the banter he’s warm-hearted and caring. Protective of Patience, he helps smooth tensions with Frankie, and a warm, sparky bond grows between him and his new boss.

DCI Calvin Baxter - Mark Benton

Baxter is in charge of the City of York police crime squad. He’s no-nonsense and guides the team strictly but fairly. He keeps Frankie in check when she’s going too far. Baxter can seem a stickler for process, but he’s got a sharp, inquiring mind and a sense of humour. He cares about his team and will allow some leeway to deliver results but will also crack the whip when necessary.

DC Will Akbari - Ali Ariaie

Will is a highly intelligent detective who is an important part of the police team. Will combs through CCTV, research suspect’s history and leaves no detail unexplored. Will is conscientious and always willing to go the extra mile – even when the work isn’t exactly glamourous. Jake might occasionally tease Will for his love for detail, but ultimately Jake and Will have each other’s backs.

Douglas Gilmour - Adrian Rawlins

Retired copper, Douglas Gilmour was the friend and colleague of Patience’s father George. He helped George raise Patience and even secured her a job in Criminal Records. When George passed away, Douglas, as Patience’s godfather, became her legal guardian and she lives with him. Douglas is kind and gentle and understands Patience. He gives her space but also is ready to fight on her behalf.

Elliot Scott - Tom Lewis

Elliot is a young conscientious SOCO (Scene of Crime Officer) who is intelligent and knowledgeable about his job. It was on a crime scene that he first met Patience and her powers of observation and deduction immediately impressed him. Elliot is kind, gentle and understanding and is very attracted to Patience. He is considerate of her autism and always wants to do the right thing.
