Q&A with Gershwyn Eustache Jnr

How did you feel when you first read the script?

Once I was given the chance to read though the script I just remember thinking "please give me a chance to be part of this".

How did you hear about Get Millie Black and how did you land the role?

For that I have to thank the Shaheen Baig casting team for keeping my name in mind. Since my first audition with them, I've felt their support. My agent sent through 2 or 3 scenes to put on tape. Then I think 2 'in-person' auditions with the Get Millie Black team.

What’s Curtis like? Who is he?

Curtis is a detective in the Jamaican Police force and works as a duo with Millie. He lives in Kingston with his boyfriend Daniel, who also works in the police force, but does all he can to hide their relationship from everyone at work.

How was it working with the other cast members?

In one word, incredible. I knew Tamara before but had not worked together. I had seen Joe's work, so, I felt blessed to jump on board. Then we got to Jamaica and met some of the Jamaica based talent and I knew we could really be making something special.

Was Marlon on set? If so, what was it like working with him – did he give you any advice?

Yes, Marlon did come down to the set. Also, from before filming he was really good with giving us the information we needed and open to making time to help us understand the world we were building.

 

What was it like filming in Jamaica?

Filming in Jamaica was food for the soul. Being of Caribbean descent I can't put into words how privileged I felt to be part of a show like this that filmed there. The Jamaica crew were A1. We were very lucky.
