  • Comedians inspire Richard Whitehead on charity challenge

British Paralympic gold medallist and double leg amputee, Richard Whitehead MBE played the first ever game of moving movie charades with a truck-load of C4 presenters to provide entertainment on the final stretch of his 40 marathons in 40 days across Britain.

Richard was given his own bespoke mobile cinema by sponsors Virgin Media to watch his favourite film Chariots of Fire while running from John O’Groats to Land’s End raising money for Scope and Sarcoma UK.

And presenters of Channel 4 comedy show The Last Leg had the last laugh by re-enacting famous film scenes from a moving stage in front of Richard, in what is thought to be the first ever game of Moving Movie Charades, to keep his spirits high as he put in more hard miles through Somerset and Devon.

The Last Leg stars Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker braved torrential rain to act out scenes from Chariots of Fire, the Matrix and Titantic among others to inspire Richard on his final few marathons towards Land’s End, having delivered a rousing Chariots-of-Fire inspired speech on last week’s show.

Richard Whitehead said: “The guys really brightened my day. They pulled off a ridiculous idea and kept me entertained. I wanted to prove that anyone can live a life without limits as the first Paralympian to run the length of the UK but never thought I’d end up playing the first ever game of Moving Movie Charades.

“My biggest challenge besides the huge blisters and sore hips is the ‘Groundhog Day’ repetition of running for 40 days and keeping myself motivated and in good spirits. The mobile cinema, the team from The Last Leg and seeing the support on Twitter have helped me get over the daily agony of the run. What’s more, it’s helped trigger even more donations which is what it’s all about. News of every donation makes each step towards the finish that much easier.”
