Interview with Tiffany Poon (Birmingham)
Category: Press Pack ArticleWhat drew you to become a mentor on series four of The Piano?
“As a pianist, obviously I'm drawn to the piano. I've seen The Piano before and was very flattered to be invited! I'm always excited to be part of projects that encourage the love of music in wider spaces, where people come together on the same ground, no matter what their musical background is.”
Tell us about your connection to music. What does the piano mean to you?
“Music was my first language growing up in an audiophiliac home. I started playing the piano because of a tiny toy piano my mom got me for fun. Luckily, that curiosity and fun I had as a child continued 26 years later on real pianos with 84 more keys. The piano is like an extension of my body and soul that I tell stories with. I am forever grateful for the friends I've made, the audiences I've met and experiences I've had traveling around the world... because of the piano.”
What do you hope to see from this year’s amateur pianists in Birmingham New Street Station?
“I hope to see genuine passion for the piano and hear their hearts through their playing.”
