What can you tell us about the second season of The 100?

In Season 2, I’m really excited to explore this new world, Mount Weather. It’s cool to get out of the forest and to see what they’re going to do with this new place. It’s really cool to be filming in a new environment, and to see how these characters react to the situation they’re in. We’re kind of incarcerated again, or are we? Personally, I don’t know what the hell it is!

What do you enjoy the most about playing Jasper?

I love Jasper. When I read the script for the pilot episode, I was like, “Sign me up immediately.” He was the only guy who was having fun and just enjoying Earth for the first time. You could see he was into this girl and he was goofy, but there’s always a lot of heart to him. There are so many heavy things going on in the show that it’s nice to have someone be the lighthearted, goofy kid. I can connect to him like that because I like to have fun. I like to mess about.

How do you think Jasper has developed as a character?

It was really fun seeing his transition. Because of the spearing, he will never really be the same again – and he accepts that the world he’s in is hell. He’s got to get down and dirty; he’s going to do these crazy, heroic things that put his life in danger. I think it’s very cool and courageous of Jasper to do so, but it’s also very stupid. When there are people dropping like flies, you probably should just stay in the camp – but he’s always grabbing a gun and running off to shoot at a bomb.

Did you enjoy playing Jasper’s transition?

Definitely. It was cool to play Jasper’s transition because of the courageous acts he commits. He has a good heart. I always say that the reason he survived the spearing is that no spear can break Jasper’s heart.

How would you describe Jasper and Octavia’s relationship in Season 2?

It’s interesting! Jasper and Octavia; Jactavia… Well, it really slipped out of Jasper’s hands, which is tough because I had that as a foundation for my character. She’s a motivation to be doing these crazy things. Like, “Yeah, I’ll swing across the river, even though we just saw a sea monster.” He did things like that because he knew she was going to like it, so when they started to separate and when the two characters started to distance themselves, it hurt. It hurt for me as well, as an actor, because she’s a big motivation.

Where do we find Jasper and Octavia at the start of Season 2?

Octavia is taking Jasper for granted. He did everything for her. He cares for her. It’s so hard when someone doesn’t love you back, but that’s really fun for me to play. I don’t know about their future. All I know is the fact that some Grounder swept her off her feet and Jasper is up in some mountain somewhere. Life is crazy! It’s full of big twists and turns. I just wish Jasper had some recognition for all the great things he does for everyone.

Can you reveal any romantic spoilers about Season 2?

The one thing I can reveal is that there is a new love interest for Jasper this season. There’s some new blood. But that’s all I can say. You’re just going to have to watch and see what happens.

Will Bellamy and Jasper continue to have a mentor/student relationship in Season 2?

I don’t know about that because we don’t even know if Bellamy is alive. All I know is that when we went out on the drop ship, at the end of Season 1, we looked for those skeletons but they weren’t there. The gas came in and we get raided. The group that was raided is in Mount Weather, but I can’t speak for those skeletons or Bellamy.

What can you tell us about the Grounders and the Mountain Men in Season 2?

That’s what’s really cool with the show; the politics of the different societies, and clans, are all so different – but we’re going to explore how they all relate to each other and who stands where. What’s really going on here? What do the Mountain Men really do? What are the Grounders all about? Who are they? I think we’re going to explore all of that this season.

When you shot the Series 1 finale, did you know what the next step would be for the show?

What I love about The 100 is the fact that we got back to where we started, which is Mount Weather. We made it to Mount Weather! And then we get speared, and everything goes way off track. It was really cool to see that come full circle. We all thought there was just a bunch of food at Mount Weather. We thought that we would go and get supplies, but it turns out there are people there with gas masks and gas. And guns with green lasers! We were wrong about the Grounders. Now we’re wrong about the Mountain Men. What else is going to happen? That’s what’s so exciting about the show. I can’t wait to find out.

How will some of the characters react to being incarcerated again, now that they are at Mount Weather?

It could be very troublesome for many of the characters. Clarke is having a lot of trouble dealing with the situation where she is being incarcerated, then having freedom and then having it taken away again. There are two ways they can react to the situation up there. It’s either great or terrifying. It’s never black and white. You see the perspective from the Mountain Men and the Grounders, and why they behave how they do. Basically, we turned up and ruined their world. There is so much more to see.

What has been the most difficult scene for you to film so far?

For me, it was when Murphy was being hanged. From the angle I was standing – in amongst 90 extras – all I could see was Murphy hanging there. I couldn’t see the wire, so it was literally like seeing one of my friends hanging. I had to go home and watch some comedy after that scene. It was tough.

Will we see Murphy again in Season 2?

Murphy is like a cockroach. We can’t get rid of him. He somehow survives everything and is a never-ending force of evil. Maybe we will see a different side to him this season?

Why will people want to tune in to Season 2?

We will be exploring a place that we have never seen before: Mount Weather. Within Mount Weather there are so many corridors and twists and turns. There are going to be things in there that are eerie. There are going to be things in there that will shock you. We are exploring new parts that we have never seen before, so what else will we discover out there? That’s the kind of thing we will get a taste of in Season 2. It’s going to be epic.
