Hollyoaks 2019 Who Shot Mercedes

Hollyoaks: Who Shot Mercedes? Joel | The Secret Keeper

Category: Press Pack Article

What is Joel’s motive for shooting Mercedes?

Joel has a couple of motives: in the weeks previous he finds Mercedes’ confession that she ran over Grace and he thinks that Mercedes has also killed Harry. He gets beaten up by Liam and Mercedes then threatens to kill Joel and hurt her own cousin, Goldie who Joel’s besotted by, if he spills the beans, so that’s the first motive. The second bit is that she embarrasses him in front of the whole village and calls him out on his past mistakes when he’s trying to not be that kind of guy anymore. He’s a Fox at the end of the day, he’s Warren Fox’s son and thinks that this girl deserves what she gets. She’s pressing and ticking all the boxes for someone to want revenge. Bad Joel is making an appearance and we love bad Joel.

Are you enjoying Joel’s romance with Goldie (Chelsee Healey)?

Yes it’s good fun, it’s very different from Cleo – Joel and Cleo’s relationship was very tortured but with Goldie it’s funny, it’s light-hearted, it’s getting a bit more serious now which is nice and Chelsee Healey is a great laugh on set too.

You’re a new dad, have you been given any good or strange parenting advice?

Strange not so much – everything’s been pretty helpful. The best advice so far is to enjoy it and don’t wish it away or wish them to get older because it happens so quickly anyway, just enjoy that squidgy baby stage, and don’t change your lifestlye too much – keep doing what you’re doing. Me and Nadine love going out for our dinner so we’ll keep doing that. And also a wee note to myself, just remember it’s supposed to be fun and get as much sleep as you can!

What were you looking forward to most about becoming a dad?

Just that we’re going to be bringing up a little person and it’s an amalgamation of two people. I’m just excited to see what they’re going to be like and we’ll hopefully be bringing up a nice little person. I just can’t wait to laugh at the baby, it’s going to be funny.

As a Scotsman, how did you feel about your baby being born in England…

Not a fan [laughs] I wanted to take Nadine up there as soon as she felt any contractions – I wanted to take her up to the border where the sign says ‘Welcome to Scotland’. My family were trying to hi-jack her as well and kept inviting her up to Scotland [laughs].

How much are you looking forward to Jamie Lomas being back?

I’m really looking forward to it, the stuff I had with him when I first started was brilliant, the storylines were excellent, he’s great to work with. We’ve been quite lucky, he’ll hate me for saying this, but we’ve got a really nice ‘father and son’ chemistry I think on screen, which is sometimes quite difficult to achieve, he’s great. I’m ecstacic and I can’t wait to see what’s coming up for us both.

Could this be more of bad Joel?

I don’t know any plans yet but if Warren manages to get inside Joel’s head and makes him into a bit of a baddie again I think personally I would love that. I think the audience would like to see that, albeit they do like seeing nice Joel, but for me I want to see him turn bad…
