Double the Money - Programme Information

Category: Press Pack Article

Sue Perkins hosts this brand new competition format, where 13 pairs of people from all over the UK are challenged to “Double The Money”.

In each episode the teams assemble in “The Vault” – a gilded banking hall where they are given an initial starting sum of money and a time limit. They must then race against the clock to double that sum of money in the allotted time. Make it back to the Vault with double the amount and they stay in. Come back with even £1 less and they are eliminated.

In each episode the money and the allocated time goes up. In their first challenge, the contestants have 36 hours to turn £250 into £500. Throughout the competition every penny the teams make, they keep and the only rule is that they can never use the same money making idea twice.

In the final, the remaining teams will be challenged to turn £10,000 into £20,000 in just four weeks.  The team who make the most money in this final episode are the series winners and will walk away with an additional £20,000 prize.

Episode 1 - Thursday 9 May 8pm Channel 4

Sue Perkins hosts this brand new competition format, where 13 pairs of people from all over the UK are simply challenged to “Double The Money”.

In this first round, teams from all walks of life assemble in “The Vault” – a gilded banking hall in Central London. Here, they are given an initial starting sum of £250. They have 36 hours to double it to £500 and get through to the next round of the competition. Anyone who fails to double the money in the time will be eliminated.

As the clock starts, every team reveals a different money-making idea, from cake sales to cocktail classes, from buying and selling flowers to flogging gaudy glasses. In the Midlands, father and son team Dale and Harvey are opening a car wash, but a poor choice of location might be their undoing, bringing past frictions in their relationship to the fore. Meanwhile, in Liverpool competitive pub landladies Cath and Lynn are trying to double their money by selling picnic boxes for a punchy £15 each. Best friends Radhika and Seema think the key to a fortune is an immigration themed walking tour of London’s East End – but at £25 a ticket, can they find enough customers?

When the clock stops, the teams return to The Vault to find out whether or not they’ve managed to double their money and keep their place in the competition. Who will be rolling in it and who will fall at the very first hurdle?
