Culinary experts Ravneet Gill and Mike Reid join Michel Roux Jr as judges on Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef

Category: News Release

Pastry supremo and hospitality consultant Ravneet Gill and leading global restaurateur and chef Mike Reid will be judges alongside Michel Roux Jr on the new cooking contest Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef. The series will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK from Thursday 8 June, and globally on Netflix outside the UK and Ireland later this year.

In this new, high-stakes cooking competition led by Michel Roux Jr, talented up and coming chefs battle it out to prove they have the culinary skills and business brain to win a once in a lifetime prize – their own restaurant at one of the world’s most famous five-star hotels: The Langham, London.

Ravneet Gill comments: “I’m excited to be teaming up with the brilliant Mike and Michel for this extraordinary cooking contest, where the stakes couldn't be higher – the opportunity to operate a five-star restaurant in the heart of London. This contest will show the pinnacle of culinary excellence, and we’re thrilled to bring our expertise to the table.”

Mike Reid adds: “As restaurant experts, Michel, Rav and I understand the dedication, skill, and creativity required to succeed in the competitive world of fine dining. We look forward to witnessing the passionate journeys of the chefs and, ultimately, awarding the winner with the keys to their gastronomic dream in one of the world's most vibrant culinary capitals.”

Michel Roux Jr comments: “The modern restaurant business is a dynamic and ever-evolving industry, fuelled by the exceptional talent and culinary expertise of professionals like Ravneet and Mike. Their deep knowledge and innovative approaches to gastronomy bring a fresh perspective to the table. The three of us share a passion for culinary excellence and eagerly anticipate finding a potential trailblazing chef in this contest to grace the culinary scene at The Langham, London.”

Across six episodes Michel, Ravneet and Mike will put the chefs through a range of epic challenges designed to test the skills they’ll need to survive in the elite world of five-star dining. Not only must they prove they can deliver five-star cuisine, but also that they have what it takes to run a restaurant at the highest level.

Lavish banquets and late-night room service; an exclusive chef’s table and The Langham’s busy lunch service are just some of the tests the chefs undertake. Who will have the grit, determination and business-mind required to survive at the top tier of the culinary world?

The chefs are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds, each with a unique vision for their own restaurant - but to turn it into reality they’ll have to endure the toughest job interview of their lives that will see them all pushed to boiling point.

The six-part series is created by Twenty Twenty (First Dates, A House Through Time, All That Glitters) for Channel 4 and Netflix.

Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef is Executive Produced by Ruth Kelly and Amanda Westwood, and the Showrunner is Katy Fryer.
