Channel 4 recommissions two series from True North

Category: News Release

Channel 4 has recommissioned two series from Yorkshire-based production company, ordering a second series of Yorkshire by the Sea and a sixth series of Devon & Cornwall

Yorkshire By The Sea will return for five episodes, once again celebrating the people and coastal landscape of England’s largest county, North Yorkshire and neighbouring East Yorkshire, through the stories of everyday heroes and communities living and working along the spectacular Yorkshire coast.

Set across the stunning 100-mile stretch of shoreline across these two counties, the series follows locals striving and thriving to earn an honest crust on the coast, from the seaside resorts of Saltburn and Scarborough in the north to the shifting sands of Spurn Point in the south. It is a place where people are passionate and proud of their communities, with each episode telling the stories of everyday grafters in their own words.

Living alongside the fast-eroding coastline makes every day a challenge, and the new series will also continue to explore how communities are facing the realities of climate change through innovation, industry and diversification, as some fight to protect traditional ways of working while others launch new ventures and help safeguard the coastline’s epic wildlife.

Devon & Cornwall will also return for five new episodes, following daily life in the beautiful South West from the viewpoint of locals, villagers, farmers, fishermen, shopkeepers and those working across the tourist industry.

The long-running lifestyle series continues to offer a warm and authentic portrait of the region, capturing the people, communities and businesses who live and work in one of the UK’s most recognisable and much-loved landscapes.

True North’s Creative Director, Christian Hills said, “What better way to spend the summer months than filming in both Devon, Cornwall and along the Yorkshire coast, meeting some fantastic characters and exploring fascinating lives.

“By allowing these people to share their stories, narrated entirely in their own words and accompanied by stunning visuals, the series set a new benchmark for the genre, providing a refreshing and compelling look at life in these regions.”

Commissioning Executive for Channel 4, Jasper Hone said, “We’re delighted to be returning to both Yorkshire's spectacular coastline and the beautiful South West with two much-loved series from our brilliant partners at True North. Both series have proved hugely popular with viewers thanks to their warmth, authenticity and the remarkable people at the heart of every story. It’s exciting to reconnect with the communities that have made these titles such enduring favourites, and I can't wait to see what these new series reveal.”

Both series were commissioned for Channel 4 by Jasper Hone, Commissioning Executive, with Jo Street, Director of Commissioning, Nations & Regions and Head of Lifestyle. The executive producer for True North is Christian Hills.
