Channel 4 opens recruitment for scripted Production Training Scheme

Category: News Release

Channel 4 today opened the recruitment for the next cohort of its flagship Production Training Scheme.

The scheme, which has been running for more than 15 years, is designed to provide entry level opportunities in TV production. It is a key part of 4Skills which aims to find and nurture talent from across the UK with the aim of attracting people into broadcasting and production from diverse backgrounds.

For the first time ever, this cohort of the Production Training Scheme is entirely focused on scripted production, with 12 roles available as either Trainee Assistant Script Editors or Scripted Development Assistants. Channel 4 is especially focused on encouraging applications from groups that are currently underrepresented in TV production – ethnically diverse people, disabled people and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Channel 4 and the participating indies pay 50% of the salary each, with the 12-month full time placements at the following scripted indies:

Rollem (Leeds)

Duck Soup (Leeds)

Warp (Sheffield)

Lime (Liverpool) x 2 roles

LA Productions (Liverpool)

Black Camel (Glasgow) x 2 roles

Two Rivers (Glasgow)

Hat Trick (London)

Euston Films (London)

The Forge (London)

In addition to the on-the-job experience, the trainees will receive industry leading training and development from training partner ThinkBigger, along with a mentor at each independent production company.

Caroline Hollick, Head of Drama, Channel 4, said: “Over the years, the Channel 4 Production Training Scheme has provided fantastic opportunities for diverse talent, working alongside our indie partners to offer substantial placements to the next generation of script editors, screenwriters, directors and development producers.

“This is the first time that Channel 4 will be delivering a scripted-only cohort, and we're very excited to take this opportunity to partner with the brilliant drama and comedy companies based across the UK.”

Kay Mellor, Founder and Managing Director of Rollem Production Company, said: “We’re really excited that Rollem are involved in the next round of the Production Training Scheme, which will be extremely helpful for us and a great opportunity to help develop and nurture the next generation of diverse talent.

“As a production company genuinely located in Leeds, it represents everything that we stand for.”
