Channel 4 goes back to the 50s in Prom Night Live (w/t)

Category: News Release

This Summer Channel 4 will celebrate 1950s Americana with a double bill of new commission, Prom Night Live (w/t), alongside musical movie classic, Grease.

Hosted by Alan Carr, Prom Night Live will be a spectacular night, celebrating all things from the rock ‘n’ roll era. Much like Rydell High, a British school hall will be transformed for the night into the ultimate 1950s all-American high school prom, complete with two revellers crowned Prom King and Prom Queen.

The Grease-inspired summer extravaganza will include live music performances, surprise guests and a look back at the legendary fashions and fads from the decade that gave us Barbie dolls and blow-up bras. The evening’s schedule on Channel 4 will also feature an airing of the original classic, Grease.

Prom Night Live is produced by Monkey (TFI Friday, Made in Chelsea) with Executive Producers Ros Coward, Ollie Brack and Suzi Aplin. The show has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Syeda Irtizaali, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment.

Alan Carr comments: “I love Grease, so I cannot wait to step inside the 1950s for Prom Night Live. This must make me Northampton’s answer to Vince Fontaine.”

David Granger, MD at Monkey: “Grease will most certainly be the word, as we throw open the doors to Prom Night Live. We can’t wait to launch the nation back into the 50s with what promises to be an extraordinary night of dating, dancing and some special guests."

Syeda Irtizaali adds: “Prom Night Live will celebrate the iconic music and fashion of the 1950s in a uniquely Channel 4 event. We’re excited to have the brilliant team at Monkey and Alan combine their entertainment talents on this big celebratory night of programming.”

Prom Night Live (w/t) (1 x 120’) will TX on Channel 4 in July.
